Ein Livebericht von gargantouas aus Athen (Fuzz Club) - 29.04.2007 (48003 mal gelesen) |
I have to apologize for the delay of this live review. There were just so many things I had to do these days that I completely forgot about it. Anyhow, now that I found the time, let me travel through the time to actually try and reproduce the atmosphere. Can I? No way. This gig was just too damn good, well for most of its duration anyways. This concert was held in a really strange venue, a club called Fuzz, that later it was proved to be too small in any view for a band such as BLIND GUARDIAN are. After all they played two shows in Athens both being sold out. As it concerns the band it self, I cannot say that I am satisfied at all with their two latest releases. I loved them back in the "Somewhere Far Beyond" days much more, but the anticipation to see them live was always there. Either way, after a fifteen-minute delay the first "notes" of 'War Of Wrath' sounded on the speakers and the crowd just went crazy. The band stormed in with 'Into The Storm' and completely made everyone going frenzy with the mosh-pit being something I couldn't stand (I am not 20 anymore - getting older and older it seems). Either way, even though the crowd was really responsive the sound of the band was just really bad for the first three songs. 'Into The Storm', 'Welcome To Dying' and 'Nightfall' had terrible sound and I couldn't almost hear Hansi singing. However as time went by and 'I'm Alive' and 'Fly' (bad song... really bad song) took turn, the sound was fixed and finally I was able to enjoy the first classic in all its glory. 'Valhalla' Hansi screams and the crowd goes crazy. Chills running through my spine and the headbanging was inevitable. Great performance from then and on since I guess BLIND GUARDIAN were taken again by the response of the crowd that was really loud. 'Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill)' took turn with the crowd singing along with Hansi and from then and on it was just a dream and a travel to the world of the elves and Middle Earth. If I take out the new songs that they did (with the exception of 'Another Stranger Me' which is a good song), the band elevated the crowd and vice versa. The top moments of the next tracks were 'Lord Of The Rings', 'Imaginations From The Other Side', 'The Bard's Song-In The Forest', where Hansi tried to sing the last verse but the crowd was so loud that he actually wasn't able to, and of course 'Mirror Mirror', which was the perfect ending to this concert. If I take out the really bad start of the band together with the bad sound, I can easily say that BLIND GUARDIAN kicked our ass and we kicked theirs. It is really amazing to be a part of the crowd in a metal concert held in Greece. For all of those that haven't experienced this, you should think about planning a trip to the ROCKWAVE FESTIVAL this year. Anyway, good concert, the memories will remain, but I guess if they don't release a good album next year or whenever they are set to release one, I don't think I will plan to see them again.
