Interview mit Uri von Orphaned Land

Ein Interview von Krümel vom 11.09.2006 (8230 mal gelesen)
In the course of this year's SUMMERBREEZE we had the possibility of a spontaneous interview with Uri Zelcha (bassplayer at ORPHANED LAND), who visited the festival in private

Are you already working on the music for a new CD?

Uri:   Yes, we've started. We have all the material and started to work on the songs, but we're a bit slow, because we're waiting for Steven (Wilson - PORCUPINE TREE). Actually he's on a tour in Japan. When we produces the album, he should be with us. So we're working on it, but it is a long process. It takes time. And we had all the concerts, f.e. in Wacken.

And when will the new album be published?

Uri:   We hope, that it will be released in the beginning of 2007. Hopefully...

You mentioned the Wacken Open Air. How was it for you?

Uri:   First we were a little be scared, because we had the concert during the same time as MORBID ANGEL. And I really wanted to see them, because I'm a big MORBID ANGEL fan. But we were surprised, that there were a lot of people. It was very good. I really like this festival.

But it's much bigger than the SUMMERBREEZE.

Uri:   Yes it is, but I also like the SUMMERBREEZE. That's the reason why I am here. It is very familiar. Here you know, where you have to go.

Last year you played at the SUMMERBREEZE festival and this year at WACKEN. What was the difference between the audience here and there?

Uri:   I think it is the same... Germany (laughter)

  What is special about Germany?

Uri:   It is the capital of metal music; this is the place. Most of the bands I love are from Germany; f.e. all the Thrash Metal bands (KREATOR, etc.)

How is the metal scene in Israel?

Uri:   It is a small country, but I think we have a really big metal scene. You know- not to be compared to Germany, but it is quite big. It is very hard over there to get the ball. I don't think, that a lot of bands have the possibility to get a great deal and record CD's and get out of it. Israel is a small country. You probably heard of BEZEFER. I think it is the only band, that signed with a big company, too. So in comparison to the culture in Israel the scene is quite big. But it is a difference f.e. to Germany. We played here, but we do not have that much concerts there. So the people are really longing to see us there.

So you have an home advantage, when you're playing in Israel?

Uri:   Yes, you can say so. A couple of days ago, we had a concert with ABORTED. I think noone knew them so far, but now they are fucking big.

Lately you played some gigs in Turkey. Could you feel any animosities there in this country against the Israelian people?

Uri:   No nothing. We had two concerts and it was our second appearance there. And the people there are so nice, really. And the metal scene over there is very big.

Have you any idea of your name recognition in Germany? How well ORPHANED LAND is known here?

Uri:   I think not that much. It could be more. It is a small group, but more than a half year ago. But we're just at the beginning. But it is also true, that we play more shows in Germany than in Israel.

What are your plans for upcoming tours?

Uri:   Actually we had the two concerts in Turkey and after this, we will work on the album. So we have no time for touring. Of course after the release we have to do it.

Thank you very much for this spontaneous interview.

Uri:   No, I thank you.
